Ciate “Ivory Queen” AC day 6

Posted on

Aloha! Second post of the day, I know. I missed yesterday because of work and Christmas and hair cuts. Also life. I was so sad I missed posting yesterday. But I hope that was just a blip and I don’t do it again. The polish I unveiled today was an excitement. But…as soon as I put it on my nails, I was pretty sure it was a bad polish colour for me. It gave me the worst mannequin hands. Dollar store mannequin hands, if they had mannequins. In the bottle, its a friggin amazing nude/peach colour with warm gold shimmer. On my skin tone, it looks weird. Not bad, but not quite right either. I used three coats for my photos and I still had dragging and patchiness at my cuticles. I’ll try it one more time over a solid base before I decide its fate.

Ivory Queen

Here it is in indirect light, I didn’t use topcoat because I knew I’d be covering it.

The shimmer…damn you. Why can’t you be so obvious? Yeah…I’m on the fence with this. Maybe one more wear during the day to see how well it looks in the sun. That reveals all the wonder. Sorry these posts were so short but dang I am tired haha. Let’s see what tomorrow holds.

Ciate “Espadrilles” AC Day 5

Posted on

Aloha! I know I am late with day five. I had reasons. They were worth it. Anywho, I am going to post day 5 and day 6 together because of reasons. You know what? I am sad I missed this. This colour is PHWOAR. Seriously. Even Mr J said he had never seen a colour this nice, in all the years I have been showing him nail polish. I have to agree. This colour is…WOAH. It looks like it is on FIRE when you see it in the right light. It’s a gorgeous copper red polish with a major gold flash. There are no words, or sounds, for this polish.

I wish I had better pictures for you so you could drown in how amazing this polish is.

Espadrilles 3

To quote teenage girls and tumblr users everywhere: I can’t even.

I am actually so sad that this precedes day 6…

Ciate “Meet Me In Mayfair” Day 3 of my AC

Posted on

Aloha! It’s day 3 here at the Ciate Mini Mani Mansion! Today’s polish is Meet Me In Mayfair, which was from Ciate’s Tweed collection of polishes. It’s a bar/feather glitter topper that consists of black, silver (possibly gold?) pastel pink and yellow glitters. Or so Ciate’s website says. I’m having a hard time seeing pink and my eyes can’t tell if they see yellow. But I know I see black, so I’m not completely blind. Guys…the lighting in this house is not the greatest. Well, that’s not fair. The lighting in the living room is not the greatest. My eyes hurt just thinking about it right now. Maybe that’s my mascara…now I’m rambling again.

The density of MMiM was awesome. I only used one coat for my pictures below and I got the coverage I wanted while still seeing the base colour: China Glaze “Wait N Sea”.

Meet Me In Mayfair

How pretty is that?! You know, I have to say, the formula on these Ciate polishes…day-um. They are SO easy to control and aren’t runny (I’m staring at you, Wait N Sea) or gloopy. They are a friggin dream to paint my nails with. Which is so weird because I had three full size Ciate’s that had the worst formula of life. Hmmm…they must’ve changed things up.

Meet Me In Mayfair4

I love holding these mini bottles. It makes me feel like a giant. Anyway, today it’s going to be short and sweet because I’m cutting it close to bed time and I don’t have much else to say about this polish other than IT’S FABULOUS. Stop by tomorrow and see what Day 4 is! Hopefully another glitter!

Ciate “Cha Cha Cha” Advent Calendar Day 2

Posted on

Aloha! Here I am with day two! So far, so good on the whole posting every day promise. But, hit me up on day 15 and see where we stand. Today’s advent calendar offering is an orange jelly bordering on neon. Cha Cha Cha took three coats and I can still see my nail line. It also dries to a satin/matte/rubber finish, which I actually really like in a polish. For some reason though, I don’t like it on an orange polish. Then again, orange polish is another touchy subject for me. Probably because orange looks atrocious on me. In polish form anyway. Love it in a lipstick.

Cha Cha Cha

It’s not a bad colour. There just isn’t anything overly unique about it though. It has an amazing formula. SO easy to control and I didn’t have to do any clean up.

Cha Cha Cha3

I can’t wait for day three!! I can’t wait to break into a blue polish or a green! Oh the joys!

Ciate “Kiss Chase” AKA Day One of my Advent Calendar

Posted on

Aloha! Welcome to the first day of my Ciate Advent Calendar excitement. You have no idea how hard it was for me to wait to open that first little door. And I won’t like; I was a bit bummed when I opened it and the first colour was pink. Pink and I…man. It has been a bumpy ride. I also wasn’t sure if I’d used this colour before, as one of the foil kit bases. I still can’t remember but I’ve applied the polish and immediately forgotten why I was worried about this colour. It is SO pretty. Yet…so weird.

OK. Here’s the deal. Where I’m sitting, right now, the colour looks like a delicious gumball pink. All the right tones of blue and basically everything I look for in a pink polish. But, when I got up to take pictures…it was a salmon colour. No joke. No matter what I did, it would not look like the amazing blue tone pink gumball I wanted it to.

Kiss Chase2

…What are this? Don’t get me wrong, I still love it. But it’s not the colour I am staring at right now. I mean, obviously it is the colour you see in those pictures. And I don’t understand. All the same lightbulbs contribute to the lighting of our house. What the problem is, Kiss Chase?

Kiss Chase

*sigh* You’re so pretty, I can’t stay mad at you. It was a mini size bottle, which is perfect for an advent calendar. I have more full size bottles than I know what to do with. No, really.

Kiss Chase4

I applied two coats and then one coat of Essence’s Gel Look top coat, which I must say, I’m not loving anymore. It bubbles like crazy now, and it’s not even halfway through. So…I’m pretty sure I’m done with it.

That’s all for today. I will do my very best to blog every single one of my advent calendar days. It may be hard, since I can’t do it in advance. But dang it, I will try! It will be the unofficial 24 days of Ciate up in here!

Joe Fresh “Nude Glaze”

Aloha! Long time no polish! Well, not nearly as long as some of my disappearances have been. But still long enough to be classified a “disappearance”. I’ve been busy with unpacking the house and just general life things. More life things than unpacking because, let’s face it, I loathe unpacking about as much as I loathe packing. It’s a very slow process. But that is not why I am here today. I’m here because I painted my nails for the first time in a week or so. I know. What have I been doing that is more important than nail polish? Getting my hands back up in top shape. I’ve been lotioning and oiling the crap out of my hands and I think it’s finally starting to work. FINALLY. So I felt brave enough to post.

Joe Fresh is a Canadian nail polish brand that I can only find in my local grocery store. I have posted about them before, but that was way back, when I was really bad at this. I will have to redo that post. They’re a great little polish line, among other things, and their nail polish is great quality. Plus, you can’t beat the price of them at $4 a bottle. Sure, they’re a bit smaller than your average polish; 6 mL vs 13.3 mL in a Sally Hansen. But like I said, the polish is great quality. I have yet to find one that I didn’t like.

Nude Glaze is no exception. It’s a gorgeous taupe/fig nude with silver shimmer. Once on the nail, the shimmer dominates the base colour, allowing it to meld closely with the skin tone of the wearer. At first, I wasn’t sure if I liked the colour on me. In some lights, I thought my fingers looked dirty. But it grew on me. I applied three coats, because it is a little sheer, and then two coats of Essence Gel Look top coat. Don’t ask me why I used two coats. I only needed one. I guess I just REALLY wanted shiny nails. As muddy as this polish looks at night, it more than makes up for it during the day. This is a keeper, and a surprisingly unique addition to my stash.

Nude Glaze2

That’s all for today folks. I will leave you with this: Mr. J bought me the Ciate advent calendar as an early Christmas gift and now I can’t wait until December 1. It’s something I need to help kick me back into blogging. Do you think he’ll believe me when I tell him that advent calendars are traditionally started on November 27?

China Glaze “One Track Mind” with a twist

Aloha! Today I have a glorious China Glaze polish to show you. This polish comes from their fall collection, All Aboard. I bought this collection in two parts from my local Winners and I am so glad I did.

One Track Mind is a beautiful, rich, creamy navy polish that GLIDES ON LIKE BUTTER. Notice the excitement with all the capitals. I really love this polish and can’t believe I was ever on the fence about buying this half of the collection. I would’ve missed out on this beauty! And then kicked myself forever. Luckily, I talked myself into buying this set. I can’t wait to use the rest of the colours, but I am a bit worried that I’ve used the best one first and it will only go downhill from there. All of this swatching and pairing polishes with other polishes is a stepping stone to get me back into nail art. I MISS IT. But I’ve just had no energy or inspiration for anything other than plain old swatches.

So, I paired One Track Mind with an accent nail of Deborah Lippmann’s  “Lost In Space” and it was the perfect base colour for this glitter. I could probably get away with wearing it on its own, but I wanted to see how it would look. And then on the rest of my nails, I topped it with two coats of OPI’s “Man With The Golden Gun”. I often forget how pretty, gold leaf polish is over deep, vampy colours.

One Track Mind6

I wasn’t as in love with the Lippman accent nail as I was with the OPI nails. The Lippman is pretty but I think I’ll have to try it again on its own and see if I can bring out some depth.

One Track Mind7

Such navy. Much vampy. Very glitter. Wow.

That’s all for today folks! Thanks for stopping by!
