KIT “The Electric Shuffle”

Posted on

Aloha polish people! I am surfacing from my sad, miserable, four finger haze. My finger is still pretty gnarly looking and it’s still hard to bend, but it hasn’t fallen off, so I’m going to keep on applying cream. Thankfully, I managed to get the next four days off (GO ME!) so I can give it proper time to breathe. Alas, it will still be quite some time before I am back to full time polishing. As the glue peels and the finger heals (no rhyme intended), I keep noticing how bad I really caught it. The blade definitely did some damage to the actual nail, so there is no way in HELL I will be attempting any form of ANYTHING until that baby grows out. Sad panda over here.

Until then, I have some archives that need some cleaning. Serious cleaning. Today I’ll be showing you a polish brand that’s new to me. I was killing time in a drug store one day when I saw a display of brand new polish. This one was the only one that caught my eye. And anyone who knows me, or reads this blog, knows that blues make me weak in the knees. Especially these kinds of blues.

KIT The Electric Shuffle2

*faints* Seriously. I don’t ever want to let this baby out of my SIGHT! It’s so gorgeous! For more pictures of this, and some shots of what I have dubbed my “Axe Wound” finger, join me after the jump!

Sally Hansen “Lacey Lilac”

Aloha lacquer lovers! I come to you today with some more pastel love. I know I seem to have tossed “Fossil Friday” aside. But no. I have just been so run down that I just…go to bed every night. I know. Scandal. Sleep over polish. But I know that all of my fellow bloggers and polish lovers understand. Your desire to sleep just overpowers your desire to colour. So, while I am not here for a Fossil Friday per se, I am here with a glimmer of the wonderful weather that lurks on the horizon. But first: A MEME!

I am sick of your weather, Brockville. Pick a season and stick with it! I NEED SOMETHING TO BASE MY POLISH CHOICES ON!

OK. This is actually a polish I swatched back in February. My best friend (who just had a healthy baby girl-YAY!) has an older sister who also loves nail polish. I knew I had to clean out a lot of my collection, because there were so many dupes and colours I didn’t like with my skin tone. And I have never liked giving things away, because I am strange and I feel that things that were once loved, deserve to go on to a good home, and not sit on the shelf of some thrift store. So my purge went on to her and I LOVED how excited she was! I knew I had made the right choice. Lacey Lilac made the cut of staying in my stash while I was swatching. Which I didn’t expect. I never was drawn to light colours. Until that moment, apparently.

Lacey Lilac

How can you say no to that shade?! Oh my God. Gorgeous!

Lacey Lilac2

Swoon. I can’t believe I ever thought I giving this away. Who knew I would LOVE pastels?

It was a dream to work with. Two even coats and bam. No streakiness, no patches, no trouble. I wish all light colours were like this. I am looking at you, yellows.

I am going to say something a bit weird now: every time I think of this colour, I think of Mr. J’s sister. She was visiting and asked if she could paint her nails. Of course! I love being able to share my collection with others! She was over yesterday, for a much needed recovery day and waited all day for me to finish work so she could ask if she could paint her nails. I love that. I love that someone has respect for belongings. There was no chance of me saying no! She had all of my colours at her disposal. And the first time, she picked this as underwear for a Justin Biber NOPI polish. Yesterday she used Color Club “Red-ical Gypsy” as underwear for “The Man With The Golden Gun.” And I won’t lie…I was jealous. Mr. J said: I can’t believe how much nail you have! Your nails are so nice! I’m so used to Trista’s nails, which are really short.

OK. Thank you boyfriend. I started doing this to forget how ugly and stubby my hands are. And then BAM! A nice punch right across the jaw. Poo on you, photobomber. All of the picture for one of my upcoming manis, have his hands or menace in them.

And now that I have rambled enough, I will leave you with this. I apologize for how verbose I have been. The morale of this entry is: give pastels a shot. They are awesome. Even if it’s not this colour, find a colour like it! NOW!

Until next time amigos!

Wet N Wild Glowstick with some stamping

Posted on

Aloha! Currently, my nails are on the outs; a random chunk of skin from my right index finger went missing yesterday. Yes, I am mildly wounded, which means that finger is in a no polish zone. Because…OW. Also, as I mentioned, the slicer and I are on the outs. It took another nail yesterday. I have just about had it! I’m also still in a very sad place right now, which I won’t go into detail about because…BORING.

Yes, I am aware that I did that twice. It needed to be done. Also! I have been baking. And when I bake, nail polish takes a hit. I would love to be able to have them co-exist. Alas, food colouring and whatnot sort of ruins a mani. So here I am. I’m going to show you a FABULOUS glowy green from the Fergie Wet N Wild line that just showed up at my local Wal Mart.

It’s a great acid green with a golden/yellow shimmer that is. UNF. And I NEVER use that in text. But then…I had to go and stamp over it…for the first time. Yes. I was a stamping virgin up until this mani. Sure, I had dicked around with it, but had never done it seriously.

…I should have waited…

The first finger turned out just fine but then it all went downhill from there. LOOK AT THAT PINKY! WAS I DRUNK?! (The answer is: Probably)

Oh yeah. That’s the stuff…

I should put this on again! Must…paint…nails…

OPI Liquid Sand: Get Your Number

Posted on

Aloha amigos! Today I have one of the Liquid Sand polishes from OPI. Get Your Number was part of the Mariah Carey collection recently released. The idea of the Liquid Sand polishes intrigued me, because well…I forget top coat A LOT. So polishes that are meant to be worn without top coat are always a bonus for me. Which is why I am SOOOOOOOO on board with this texture trend. I can’t wait to hunt down the Milani textures, and the Pixie Dusts from Zoya (as soon as I can afford a haircut…since my salon sells Zoya)and well…any textures I can get my greedy hands on.

I would like to state that this was a surprise polish that my sister picked up for me and honestly…I was, and still am, over the moon that she thought of me. I hadn’t asked for it, I hadn’t even mentioned to anyone that I wanted it. She just…bought it for me. And WOW. I am SO happy!

Color Club Factory Girl

Posted on

Aloha amigos! My plate is a bit full at the moment, but is quieting down a tad. I had an interview yesterday, which I always dread because it’s basically selling yourself and being judged the second you walk in the door. I’ve also been doing a fair bit of nail art, which, if you’re friends with me on Facebook, you’ve been getting good looks at.

Lately, I’ve been craving pastels. It could be that Spring is right around the corner, and ALL of the Easter decorations are out. Or it could be that I’m looking for something clean and fresh after the last few dirty weeks of Winter. Whatever it is, I just can’t get enough. I even made myself a new pastel, because my cravings are insatiable. And this time, I left it alone.

Factory Girl

Now I will say that I forgot to apply top coat…because Iam a bad polisher. And my hands were in ROUGH shape. But that did not make me stop loving this polish. And I have a feeling that with some shine, this baby will be EVEN. BETTER.

Factory Girl3

I freakin LOVE how bright this blue is! This came in an unnamed Color Club set at Winners, and though careful searching and comparing, I decided that this had to be Factory Girl. If it is, it’s part of their “Poptastic” collection. It was part of the collection that wasn’t the eye-searing neons. It’s still a great polish though. And if there is such a category, I would say this is a neon pastel. I wish I had more colours like this, but I understand that pastels tend  to be soft and muted. You can’t always get what you want, right?

Formula-wise, its first coat was a patchy, streaky hot mess. The second coat set the base and then the third leveled it out. It was thin, but not watery and out of control. All in all, a great colour for my stash and I can’t wait until the sun is in full force and I can blind people with this one!

Revlon Heavenly & Sally Hansen White Veil

Hey there! Hi there! Ho there! Sorry for the break in posts! A friend came to visit and I was hoping to see more of him, but life got in the way so I really didn’t see enough!

Today, I have a polish I am assuming is LE, with a new Revlon that I think they are adding to the core collection for now. This Sally Hansen was from their Diamond Strength line and I think it was a Fall/Winter collection because I can’t find this anywhere now. It was a gift from a friend and I am SO glad. Because I saw it many times in store and NEVER wanted it. It seemed so boring. But then I got it and WOW. I will use this more than the other two from this collection that I picked up! It’s awesome! A neutral glitter! Yes. They exist! I paired this with Wet N Wild Black Creme because it is a great, cheap 1 1/2 coat black polish! Less than two bucks! CANADIAN! WHEEE! Ok. Enough! Here I am modeling with a special edition Dead Rising 2 prop, because I am awesome lame and that’s what I had lying around.

I am actually surprised by how much I loved this! In the bottle, this looked like a bandaid in a bottle. To me. That is how boring I thought it would be! And oh MAN! I was so wrong!

I  NEED  TO WEAR THIS AGAIN! But not now because I am wearing a silver foil so it would look silly. BUT MAN! Thank you until the end of the world, Ellen! This is amazing!

…but then I wondered what would happen if I added Revlon “Heavenly.” *dead*

To quote Janice from Friends: Oh. My. GOD!

I just…I can’t even. I’ve read that a few people had issues with the formula on this bad boy. But I didn’t. It was perfect. No fishing, no goopiness…it was awesome. I loved it. And I will ALSO wear this one for a long time! I’m imagining how it will look over a white or a nice clean, pastel blue…oh my god. Dead.

In the light of day, with its lacquer partner. Oh man…I am so in love…even if you are weary of the formula…but Heavenly of you can. Because it is under five dollars and you have a pretty good shot of getting a bottle with a decent formula!

In fact, both of these polishes were cool. One coat of each with no dabbing or placing or fishing for glitter! The Sally Hansen will be a bit harder to find, but right now, the Revlon is all up in the consumer grill!

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Bandage

Aloha amigos! Today I have some nudes for you. Nail polish wise anyway. And if you want to get technical, there is only one nude. But I thought I was being cheeky.

ANYWAY. After all of that colour and glitter, I needed a break. My default nude/neutral has been Rad Nomad or Nomadic in Nude. Mainly because I don’t own a lot of true nudes. I felt that if I couldn’t find one that gave me “mannequin hands” then I wanted nothing to do with it. Because if I don’t want to look like I’m wearing nail polish, I want a nail polish that blends into me.

…what? Why don’t I just skip polish? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Get off of my blog, because you don’t understand. Just kidding. Please don’t go. I love your naive ways. They remind me of a time before all of this. A time when life was simple, and nails weren’t jaundice from polish. A time when I could go to bed and wake up with nails without sheet marks. *sigh* Those were the days. Sometimes I do miss them.

But not enough to give all of my polish away and start fresh. Forget that. I’m in this for the long haul. Enter Sally Hansen. This is a brand that, along with Revlon, dominates my collection. It is cheap, easy to get to, and rarely lets me down. I don’t own a lot of polishes from the Complete Salon Manicure line, because I am not drawn to a lot of them. Also, I hate the brush. A lot. But I do stalk my local Wal Mart, Superstore and drugstores, looking for the designer collab collections. Which I rarely find. When a new collection finally did show up in my town, I stared at it for a full two minutes. Mostly because I was so disappointed with what I saw. I snagged Gilded Lily because it looked awesome. It was a rare disappointment; not because of formula or anything, but because it just didn’t mesh with me. I hated it as soon as I painted my first nail. Then Bandage caught my eye. It was so pale and fleshy, my heart skipped a beat. Could it be? Nail foundation in a bottle?

Bandage CSM2

Swoon. I freakin love this. It’s so smooth and perfect. I had absolutely no problem with the formula and this is ZERO cleanup! Now, I will admit that I have gotten MILES better at controlling where my polish goes, but there can be some pooling and trickiness with a few colours. Happily, this is not one of them! HOW PERFECT IS THIS COLOUR!?

For me, at least. You know what makes this even better? I got it on clearance. I paid three bucks for this baby. CSM polishes usually run between $6-8, depending on where you buy them. There were several CSM colours on clearance but I only wanted this one.

Bandage CSM3

I just…can’t. A lot of people might think I’m bananas for loving a nude this much. BUT OH MY GOD! IT’S SO CLEAN!

It is an amazing palate cleanser and I can see myself wearing this until the bottle runs out.

That’s all for today! Stay tuned to see what I did when I got bored with nude nails…
